Experience Tennessee's Mountain Goat Trail

The Mountain Goat Trail, located in the scenic Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee, offers a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience, merging the region’s natural beauty with its rich history. Once a bustling railway known as the Mountain Goat Railroad, the trail has been transformed into a multi-use path that fosters community, promotes health, and supports the local economy.

Today, managed by the Mountain Goat Trail Alliance, the trail honors this legacy, transforming the old tracks into a 35-mile scenic route that, when fully completed, will connect seven plateau towns. Currently, paved sections in Monteagle, Sewanee, and Tracy City invite walkers, cyclists, and runners to enjoy breathtaking views of the Cumberland forests, streams, and wildlife.

Key stops along the trail include Sewanee, home to the University of the South and its Gothic-style architecture; Monteagle, known for local favorites like the Mountain Goat Market; and Tracy City, with historic sites and the serene Grundy Lakes.
