Spending an afternoon in an antique shop brings us pure joy. Antiquing demands we slow our pace, tap into our most nostalgic selves, and experience heartfelt memories. We recently took a leisure afternoon to visit the Historic Downtown Manchester Antiques at 109 N. Irwin St. on the Historic Square in Manchester.

Antiquing taps into so many senses.
We see a rocking chair that is just like the one our mom or grandmother rocked us in as kids. We see old leather dress shoes like our granddaddy wore with his dress overalls when he went to church. Then there’s the dishes just like Aunt Lizzie served Christmas dinner on, and a train set like we played with at our cousin Jesse’s. Tap. Tap. Tap.
The afternoon at Historic Downtown Manchester Antiques ticked all of the boxes for an inspiring day.

Walking by the beautifully decorated windows drew us in - that, and our interest in getting a glass bottled coke for 35 cents from their antique coke machine. That was the coldest Coca-Cola we’ve ever had! Their excellent display of Uranium Glass held our attention and inspired conversation about just how this beautiful green glass came to be. It was definitely an afternoon of oh look at this, do you remember these, I loved this when I was young.

The real gem in The Historic Downtown Manchester Antique Shop wasn’t on a shelf or a display. It was Dorothy, Orville, Hannah, and Robin! They knew their stuff, for sure, but were also intelligent, interesting and all had a great sense of humor. We will go back to shop and enjoy a cold coke again, but the real reason for a return will be to visit with these passionate antique experts who are about the kindest people you will ever meet.
Maybe you don’t take antiquing this seriously. That’s okay. Go anyway. Step inside and time travel to days gone by for inspiration, memory-triggers, and a good ole cold Coca-Cola.
