The Ardmore Scarecrow Trail in Tennessee, or is it in Alabama?

Is it Ardmore, Alabama? Ardmore, Tennessee? Ardmore, Tennebama? Actually, it’s one of those fun phenomena when a town straddles two states and, in this case, four counties. For the sake of this blog, let’s just say Ardmore!

We recently visited this quaint border town to learn about “The Scarecrow Trail,” happening Oct. 12-26, culminating with the Fall Festival, 1-6 p.m., Oct. 26. The Trail, is a first for the town, organized by The Ardmore Public Library (more on that later in this blog), and leading up to the “big day,” Halloween, on Oct. 31. All festivities are happening at the John Barnes Park Walking Trail.

Businesses in town will be designing and building the scarecrows, which are expected to be creative, exciting, and probably not the least bit scary! This will be great for all ages, especially the little ones. The Fall Festival on the final Saturday of the month will feature food, games, and family fun for the entire community. This is a FREE event, and open to the public.

Since this is all sponsored by the library, we thought we would do a  little research. Did you know that scarecrows have been around for 3,000 years, when the ancient Egyptians hung tunics on reeds to scare quail away from the crops along the Nile? See, learning is FUN!

We also learned that the Ardmore Public Library is a great deal of fun, filled with loads of books, and run by a dedicated staff of friendly and passionate people. Joshua Pack, who invited us for a visit,  is one of those staffers who has been volunteering for 20+ years.

Director Tina O’Driscoll has assembled an enthusiastic and dedicated staff all with a deep love for learning. This is a small library with a BIG vision. They provide so much for the people who live here: hotspot devices, story time for kids, DVD’s, audio books, games, clubs, books and so much more. We especially enjoyed the delightful room called “the historical room,” and think you will too.  Go spend some time here and learn about the great town of Ardmore.

Don’t miss The Scarecrow Trail and Fall Festival!
